TEENS Online Driver's Ed.

Short answer, no…
a. You must apply with TDLR to ensure you are eligible BEFORE purchasing. You MUST
complete these steps before purchasing this product to ensure that you are eligible and approved by TDLR. If you purchase this product before finishing these steps, there is the risk that TDLR will not approve you and we will not be able to refund you!

i. Prior to purchasing a Parent Taught Driver Education Program Guide from
TDLR, parents are responsible for checking whether their criminal and/or
driver records prevent them from teaching the Parent Taught Course. (If you
are certain your record is clean, you can skip this step!)

ii. Must purchase a TDLR Online Licensing Service (texas.gov) from TDLR. The
guide costs $20. After you purchase the guide, you will receive an email from
TDLR with a link to download the guide. Check your spam and junk folders if
you do not see the email in your inbox.

iii. Purchase the online Cruise Control Online TDLR
approved course(s): 32 PT HOUR ONLINE COURSE & 14 HOUR DRIVING ONLY

Yes it is, anytime you sign up for parent taught program course (32 hour online
classroom or 14 hour driving) you will be required to purchase the Parent Taught Driver
Education Program course

  1. Check with DPS to ensure you are eligible here: Texas DPS Driver Records  to be a parent taught instructor. Then register to become one here: Purchase/Register with TDLR as PT instructor. The main requirements being 7 years of driving experience and a Texas license for at least 3 years.
  2. Complete a 32 hour classroom/online program. You will be eligible for permit after the first 6 hours and will earn a certificate that can be used to obtain your permit at the DPS after completing Module 1. You will earn a second certificate after completing all 32 hours (Module 12) that will be used at the DPS to obtain your driver’s license.
  3. Get your permit at the DPS after turning 15 and completing the first 6 hours of your 32 hour course.
  4. Complete 14 hours of behind the wheel instruction/observation with your parent/guardian or a certified driving school.
  5. Complete all 32 hours of your online course.
  6. Take and pass your DPS road skills test. This test can be taken at the DPS or any authorized 3rd party testing site, such as Cruise Control Online.
  7. Make an appointment to visit the DPS for your driver’s license.

a. Driver education course: 14 years old (parent taught), 14 years 9 months (in-person)
b. Permit from DPS: must be at least 15 years old
c. Driving test: minimum of 16 years old
d. Drivers license: minimum of 16 years old after driving test

Once the student has earned their permit (minimum of 15 years old), they must drive with an adult (21+ with a minimum of 1-year driving experience)

A minimum of 44 hours of actual driving training

  1. 14 hours instructional (qualified PTDE of student or instructor)
    7 hours driving behind-the-wheel
    7 hours of in-car observation
  2. 30 hours of behind-the-wheel practice (1 hour per day) – parent/guardian
    20 hours daytime
    10 hours of nighttime

If you are testing at the DPS you will need to provide your own vehicle. If you are testing at Cruise Control Online we will provide the vehicle.

ADULTS Online Driver's Ed.

All drivers 18 and older are eligible to take the 6 hour adult course instead of the teen course.

The teen course is designed for students between the ages of 15 and 17 and 1/2. If you started a teen course before you turned 18 you are allowed to finish it and do not need to re-enroll in an adult course.

Yes you do! All Texas drivers over 18 and under 25 are required to take a driver’s education course. If you are over the age of 18 you are eligible to take the 6 hour course instead of the 32 hour teen course though!

If you are 25 or older you are not required to take driver’s ed in the state of Texas. However, it is highly recommended and will help you to pass your written test and driving test. Also, if you take the 6 HR online course you will not have to take the written test at your local DPS!

Of course it is! All of our courses are approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Our online driver’s ed. courses teach you to become a safe driver. they cover important driving skills and responsibilities. You’ll learn about road rules, traffic signs, and defensive driving to protect yourself and others on the road.

Yes there is! But don’t worry, you can take it as many times as you need to! If you fail the exam you will be eligible to try again the following day . In order to pass the final exam you will need to score at least 70%.

After you pass your course you will also need to watch the IMPACT Adult Driving video that is provided by the state of Texas. You can register for free and watch this video here: IMPACT ADULT 

After passing your course and watching the IMPACT video, you will then need to visit your local DPS and provide them with your certificate of completion from this course. They will then allow you to take the DPS Road Test (Driving Test). Upon passing your driving test you will then be issued an official Texas Driver’s License.

Alternatively, you can also take your course completion to the DPS and ask for an Adult Learner Permit. After exchanging your certificate for a learner permit, you are then eligible to practice driving with other licensed drivers or take driving lessons at your local driving school.

When you are confident in your driving abilities you can then return to the Texas DPS to take your road test and obtain your license.

It’s also important to note that if you have an Adult Learner Permit, you are also eligible to take the DPS road test at any local driving school that is a DPS 3rd Party Authorized Road Testing Site.

Yes, you must complete the course within 180 days of registration.

When you pass your final exam you will be instantly rewarded with your completion certificate! You will be able to download it in PDF format and print it at anytime. The certificate will always be available within your user profile too.
